The UK Charity

UK Charity Number: 1173534

Future Pillars Zambia (FPZ) FPZ is a UK Charity and is Christian based with those values informing everything that we do. We also hold passionate beliefs in diversity and inclusion as we work together with groups of people and individuals of all faiths and no faith to support the Family Future Community School (FFCS) which serves three impoverished shanty compounds in Kabwe – Bwacha, Nakoli and Shamabanse.

Our mission is to empower these vulnerable children in Zambia.

Our principles are based on the belief that all people should be valued equally and should be protected from harm. This is particularly pertinent when it comes to children.

 Our inspirations come from…

As Jesus said - “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them.”

“Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me.”

As Nelson Mandela said - “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.”

As Mahatma Gandhi said - “If we want to reach real peace in this world, we should start educating children.

Background

The AIDS pandemic in the 1990’s decimated the wage-earning sector of the population and many orphaned children had to be cared for by grandparents or other family members without the resources to provide adequate food or pay for education in the government schools. Despite the slightly improved situation with the introduction of HIV medication, so many children and families remain in severe and lasting poverty. In supporting FFCS, Future Pillars Zambia seeks to impact positively on the social injustice experienced by the children, many of whom are single or double orphaned, and their extended families. By feeding and educating without fees, FPZ is aiming to break the cycle of poverty, poor health, and hopelessness, endemic in these compounds.

Completing the first five years of our existence, progress has been made in realising FPZ’s vision for the school and the children and adults in it. Indeed, we are now extending our commitment to empowerment and sustainability by encouraging governance and self-funding initiatives at the local level in Zambia, thus reducing the degree of reliance on FPZ in the UK.

Over the last year, the Family Care and Orphans Board (FCOB) has been established. This is a group of six dedicated supporters in Kabwe who have committed themselves to supporting the school as a governing body. It is intended that FCOB will, in time, become a Zambian-based charitable trust.

Our Vision

Family Future Community School creates a sustainable long term future by becoming self sufficient through both local governance and funding initiatives in Zambia, thus reducing the degree of reliance on FPZ in the UK.

Our Financial Model

Peter McAughey, FPZ Treasurer, describes our approach to the finances and how that impacts on fundraising in the UK and spending in Zambia.

The FPZ core financial principles are:

  • 100% of supporter donations go to our Programmes.

  • All the costs of the charity are covered by the individual Trustees.

  • We are meticulous in ensuring that all monies raised and spent are carefully tracked and monitored.

  • We ensure 100% compliance with UK charity regulations.
